[Movie Review] Taichi 0《太极之从零开始》Gala Premiere

I was invited to attend Taichi 0 《太极之从零开始》Gala Premiere last Monday (01/10/2012) that was held at Golden village Vivocity!

There were special cast appearance by Stephen Fung (冯德伦), Tony Leung Ka Fai (梁家辉) and Yuan Xiaochao (袁晓超). The host of the day was Danny Yeo 杨君伟.

They had a talk on the movie related topics, and to be honest, I couldn't stop snapping at them. Hey! Its exclusive! But well, the images didn't really turn out that well and I only managed to pull out a fraction that is more presentable! Haha!

About The Movie:

It was directed by Stephen Fung (冯德伦) with a sterling casts from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.

To name just a few, Tony Leung Ka Fai (梁家辉), Shu Qi (舒淇), Angelababy (杨颖), Deniel Wu (吴彦祖), Eddie Peng (彭于晏) etc.

Produced by Chen Kuo-fu 陈国富 (who previously did AFTERSHOCK, DETECTIVE DEE, PAINTED SKIN II) from Huayi Brothers 华宜兄弟, one of the biggest movie production company in China.

The run-time of the movie was about 95 minutes and will be released on the 4th October 2012.

The Synopsis:

As an uncommonly gifted child, Yang Luchan had a fleshy abnormality that holds tremendous power growing on his forehead.

However being teased as the town fool, Yang’s mother spurs him to practice martial arts, and following her wishes, Yang travels the distance to come to Chen Village to learn TAI CHI.

At this legendary village, everyone practices TAI CHI and uses TAI CHI in every aspect of their lives.

Nevertheless, it is forbidden for a villager to disclose TAICHI to an outsider, and Yang learned this the hard way.

Upon arriving at the village, locals discourage Yang by challenging him with fights. From the strong men to hold ladies to children, everyone defeats Yang with their TAICHI moves.

After facing the toughest battle and being defeated by Master Chen’s beautiful daughter Yuniang, Yang is determined to master the art of TAICHI and he needs to find Master Chen.

Little does Yang know, the poor strange man who he befriended with is in fact Master Chen who then saved him from the duel with Yuniang.

Master Chen realizes Yang’s genius and disguises himself to secretly guide Yang to his self realization of TAICHI.

One day, a frightening steam-powered machine came to the village, lead by Fang Zijing, a childhood friend of Yuniang.

He has bribed government officials to permit him to build a railway that will run straight through the village.

Yang decided to join forces with Yuniang to defeat Fang Zijing and destroy the machine. This brave act may just win the hearts of the villagers…

My Review:

Is it me or is it that we could rarely see a Chinese 3D movie, be it Hong Kong, China or Taiwan. In my personal opinion, I really think that the team had really spent a lot of effort and sweats for this movie.

It really impressed me with the visual arts that they had co-ordinate/edit to make this movie a rather interesting. Frankly speaking, when I first heard of the movie title, my first thought was, "Tai Chi? Another standard fighting scene we often see in the market..".

Well, I was really caught excited after watching the trailer when I was first invited. The casts were rather strong and if I remembered correctly, I think its the first time they all work together? I had a really good time enjoying the show, especially if you are one of those who enjoys watching action genre.

The story line for Taichi 0《太极之从零开始》might have ended abruptly, but it is enough to make you wait for the sequel, leaving you craving for the sequel! Haha! :P

Oh! I almost forgot, this is just the first installment of the series. Yes! You heard me right, the sequel, TaiChi Hero 《太极二之英雄崛起》will be out on  25 October 2012, which means it will be almost 3 weeks for now!

So I repeat myself again, the first installment, Taichi 0《太极之从零开始》will be out today (04/10/2012), and TaiChi Hero 《太极二之英雄崛起》will be out on 25 October 2012!
